Since "bump stocks" were outlawed for semi-auto rifles in March, I haven't been able to find out if they're illegal on a pump action shotgun.

Does anyone have any clue? Or, are they just illegal to own in any fashion and it doesn't matter what they're attached to?

First, I don't know that they are useful for accurate fire, which is the only reason for not being interested in such a device.

However, you bring up something I had not thought of, sort of street riot type of combat. I still don't know how they would work in that application, but since there are shotguns with two barrels and they hold about 12 rounds. Then, there is the Mossberg that has a, I think, 20 round magazine? I still don't see much advantage in retrofitting it into a bumpstock?

This is one of those things where I personally would care less, if government banned them but just to support fellow firearm people, I guess I might support a neighbor and would expect my neighbor to stand up for a different issue, in terms of standing together. You know, if you support my coyote hunting, then, I will support your duck hunting.

There are many firearms I could do without, but would be against outlawing any of them.

I emailed the ATF to figure out if the particular stock is legal or not and it says in their robo reply that it can take up to 120 days to respond. That's not long...

The gun I have is an 870 tactical turkey that came with a Knoxx stock (pistol grip and recoil absorbing stock) on it. I'm not even sure if it's considered a bump stock but don't wanna find out the hard way.

It absorbs quite a bit of recoil when shooting 3 1/2" shells. I can shoot it all day and not get a sore shoulder.

Edit: They're illegal federally but not illegal in the state of Michigan. I suppose I can use it unless the FBI or ATF is going to be hanging out nearby.

The Knox stock is not a bumpstock. A bumpstock has a wall in the trigger guard that allows you to easily bumpfire from recoil alone.

The Knox stock is just a recoil absorber.

Good to know we have members that know what they are talking about, like Tom here. Personally, I've never heard of a Knox stock? I might as well admit that I'm far from a firearms expert. I can't describe a blowback from a fart blossom, much less describe the advantages of a striker fire versus a hammer, not that it has anything to do with the price of tea in China.

By now, everybody has heard of the "bump stock" used in that mass murder in Las Vegas and the sick son of a bitch that did it, may he rot in Hell! I always have the utmost sympathy for these victims of senseless slaughter, and that's what it was, shooting fish in a barrel.

Besides that sympathy, I take every one of these actions by depraved and insane people, I take it personal because they are messing with my freedom. They shoot innocent people and the squawk becomes, let's take a constitutionally protected right away from El Bee, that should solve the problem!

I even read something recently that took issue and denied the well stated truth, that the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. How the hell can somebody dispute that truth? It doesn't matter if it is a police officer or a citizen that goes to his vehicle and retrieves his firearm and holds the criminal for authorities or shoots the son of a bitch! How can somebody deny this? But I just read it yesterday; that it's untrue.

That's the thing with Liberals. They talk out of their ass and say things that are untrue and they know what they are saying is complete falsehoods, but the Media allows them to get away with it and by just speaking complete bullshit, they cancel out conservative logic.

If we are disarmed because of some homicidal manic; then who is going to put a stop to 57 people being murdered? The one eyed man rules in the land of the blind. You have a bad guy with a gun, and pass laws to take away the guns of the good guys? Nothing better illustrates how bat shit crazy these Liberals are, than their solutions to mass murder. As has been said before, an armed society is a polite society.

Besides that, it is so logical that the weaker members of society are the ones that stand to benefit from having the means to defend themselves against much stronger evil doers. If God didn't make them equal, Smith and Wesson did! Who can dispute logic and truth? Democrats, Liberals and the fruggin' MEDIA....that's who!

Sorry about the rant, sue me!

Good hunting. El Bee

Semi-autos can be shot just like an auto even w/out the bump stock; the bump stock just makes it easier.

Thanks for the info, Tom. I read info on the new ban and it's kinda murky (probably on purpose) as to what their actual definition of bump stock is.

Just what would be the purpose of a bumpstock on a pump gun ? Just curious.

About time somebody asked that!

charged by rabid pitbulls or something?

I'm guessing that while a bump-stock on a pump action would serve no purpose, if a recoil reduction stock was classified as a bump-stock one could find themselves in a legal nightmare thru no bad intentions of their own.
