Cindy was past due for a new car, her Denali was 15 years old. I like what she decided on.
Can't believe how awesome this thing is. Makes mine seem just way antiquated and decrepit.
Little 2.0 four cylinder, turbo, 8 speed auto (same one as in my truck). Way more power than my Jeep - way more. Including low end torque. But is getting 20 MPG so far, on 35's, keeping it in boost an awful lot because it's just too much fun. It's a mild hybrid, has a generator/battery system that adds 75 ft/lbs up to 1500 RPM, so it pulls off idle like crazy and has no detectable turbo lag.
Should wheel toe to toe with mine. Some places, better, other places, not quite as good, due purely to differences in wheelbase and break over angle. Approach and departure are about the same. But I put a lot of work and money to make mine like that and hers was made for 35's with no lift right from the factory. So has as much ground clearance as mine, but sits lower. Pretty unreal.
Amazingly, amazingly civilized for a Wrangler. Smooth and quiet and comfortable. Has all the luxuries and newest safety features.
Her new ride is SWEET!
I think Jeep hit it out of the park with the JL.

Sounds great.
But, I've been meaning to ask something.I saw a "jeep" in the Walmart parking lot last week and couldn't get over how tricked out it looked. LED's on the side view mirrors and really good looking paint. I think it said Rubicon across the front? Seemed to have every upgrade imaginable, not hardly entry level. And, it looked "factory" not a bunch of aftermarket stuff. Your photo above is a nice looking vehicle but looks tame compared to this Jeep at Walmart.
Good hunting. El Bee

Beautiful vehicle, congrats to you both! Love that color, it's perfect...
I'm a big Formula One fan, and it's neat to see the advanced technology of those insane cars trickle down into the consumer market. I mean seriously..., who'da though Jeep would make a turbo hybrid??? Interestingly enough, just got me an older 2.5L turbo import to dick around with, but it ain't gonna crawl over any rocks! There's somethin' kinda cool about a small-ish motor spoolin' up to deliver 300+ hp to four wheels...

Fred, the HP per cubic inch these days is really something. Especially when forced induction is used!
Leonard, not much to go on there, as far as what you were looking at. Other than, it probably wasn't factory stuff. The one you see here is as pimped out as they come from the factory. And already has bigger tires, it came with 33's.

Yeah, I know I don't have much info, but it was bright red, if that helps? It just didn't look like a customized job. Had lots of stuff. You know I'm not that interested in Jeep so if it caught my attention, it must have been quite a standout. Well, I shop there often enough, who knows maybe I will see it again?

New Jeeps have a very low rating from CR they have a lot of gremlins in the wiring and computers.

The criteria CR uses, is not very well aligned with ours . I pay zero attention to their car advice.

You are probably right. But had read on another site some of the worst vehicles and Jeep was one of them with the wiring and computers. Still like the looks of the jeeps. Good luck.

Interesting; I used to have a Jeep CJ-7 Larado. Nothing but trouble ………. wiring & computers. Bought it new / sold it with 13,000 miles on it. It was in the shop more than it was in my driveway. Was glad to be shuck of it.

Well, ol' Dave has said; can't be explained, you either get it or you don't. That's not his words, just what I got out of it.
But, for me, and it's a long time ago, the only experience I ever had with Jeep was in the military and as I've said before, it is by far the least dependable off road vehicle in the Army. Of course, this is before all the electronic mumbo jumbo, Mine did not even have a keyed ignition, just a switch, therefore anybody could drive off with it. And, therefore we always used a chain and padlock on the steering wheel.

Well, at least they are easy to work on.
I just wish there weren't so many people that do get it though.
There is an upside to that, at least, which is resale value. Wranglers run neck and neck with Tacoma's for highest resale value, year after year. It's crazy how much used ones go for.

Have a buddy in search of a used H3 Alpha, with the 5.3L. For the life of me, I can't see how that POS would command what they're askin', but it does. Supply & demand, I reckon...
Now, a Taco...I wish I still had my '97 3.4L 5spd! If it hadn't been t-boned, prolly would still be driving' it, if the frame didn't rust out from under it after 20+ years? New Tacos are nice, but throttle response is pig-ish, to say the least. Gets outta its own way after a while thoughh...
That new turbo Rubicon is very intriguing!

Hey Dave, any updates on the Jeep? How is the etourque doing? Heard a rumor on the Ram 1500 with that etorque system was having troubles with the batteries or something and it’s too new so can’t get parts. Contemplating a new 1500 is why I’m asking.
