I'm teaching night time target aquisition and range estimation to a novice and wanted to use little bits of 3M Scotchlite 3000x on staked clay birds as reflective targets, until I saw the price of the tape. 1" rolls x 25 yds are $440. or two for $620. Hunting can be a bit expensive, and wasting perfectly good coyote eyes isn't economical either, but this is rediculous.
Does anyone know a slightly less expensive alternative for some Scotchlite practice?

Unbelievable? I have bought plenty, in the past, but I never paid anywhere near that much, but I never bought 25 yards, either?
McMaster-Carr has some good quality reflective tape that is used for retroreflective photoelectric controls, etc. I'm pretty sure you don't need to buy that much?
Good hunting. LB
edit: let me look around, I may have several feet of red and white stashed somewhere? I used to handle the scotchlite shoots and always had some on hand.
edit: well, that was easy. If a few feet of each will do you any good, email me your mailing address, and I will send it to you? [ October 23, 2005, 11:48 AM: Message edited by: Leonard ]

McMaster-Carr lists the ultra-high reflective tape without revealing the manufacturer. Yes the price is for one single 50yd roll.
White 4" 6091T37 $395.83
"Conspicuity" tape for marking big rigs is still $55. per roll.
Thanks Leonard [ October 26, 2005, 09:46 AM: Message edited by: Nahuatl ]

Hit your local fishing tackle store. I just saw 2"x6" strips of reflective tape for $1 each - sold for decorating lures. Red or silver. I saw it on the clearance rack, so it might normally be a bit higher. Might not be reflective enough, certainly cheap enough to experiment with.
