Hey Your El Bee-ness ........
Just had an outfit out of Texas at my door wanting to promote solar panels.
I seem to remember that you have them and was wondering your impression of the whole deal, yea or nay ???

I seem to recall that he wasn't too impressed with them and it raised his property tax, kinda null and voiding the offset in overall costs.
What say you Leonard? Did I recall at least part right.
I can say that those horrid windfarms are a total joke to benefit the Chinese. And the solar fields they have put up in the desert are a joke also. Destroy thousands of acres for the sake of being Green.

ko ko, you sure like to open a can of worms, first thing in the morning!
I'll give you the basics, First, they inspected my roof to be sure I wouldn't be removing the panels, next year to reroof. That done and signed off, it was rather quick, except for the city permits.
One thing for me is that because I had a remodel/addition in the back area, my main service was max'ed out and they replayed and upgraded it at no cost, something that I am quite sure was worth at least $1,500, and at no cost to me, like the rest of their junk, all sitting on my south facing roofs, and not visible from the street, which I considered a big plus. About the new service panel: they blended it in well enough that I would defy anybody to tell that it was done.
The solar panels are rated at 43 amps and unless it's a winter storm, I never tap into Edison's power, during daylight hours. In fact, that's part of the diversionary aspects. I can't really tell what it's costing and saving!
What I can say is that I get two bills every month. One from Edison that is always between $4 and $7. Then the company, (Sun Run) helps themselves to my checking account, and that varies from maybe $80 to $150, winter and summer. It's been 4 years now, but my Edison electric bill used to be in the neighborhood of $140 to $165 per month.
My impression is that most of the timeI am using less energy than I am generating and while they didn't go into that situation too very deeply, I think they are banking the excess $ that might otherwise be going into storage batteries, if I had any?
I don't think I am losing on the deal. I "think" I am ahead? But, it's intentionally hazy. It might be a wash, I can't figure it out, to the last dollar?
If I didn't mention it before, I have a surplus with Edison of about $250 and they settle up in January and give me a check for the excess which has usually been around $50, or so.
Another annoying little development is that San Bernardino County re-appraised my property a couple years ago to the tune of $14,000 increase which jacked my yearly taxes, commensurate. How much that is, actually, I don't really know because the idiot voters keep approving these various bond issues, and my taxes go up, every fucking year; like magic!
To be brief, (ha ha) I don't know? I didn't pay a cent, on the installation or the permitting.
I know that I can run the air on a blistering hot day and it's free! And, that's not nothing!
After 20 years, I have the option of buying that leased equipment on my roof, or continue the status quo. So, if I bought it, (and the price was never mentioned) then that $150 or so that I am currently paying every month to Sun Run would be ZERO? Theoretically.
