So how much powder can a person order before a black helicopter land on your front lawn ????

I'm kinda surprised that you can even possess more than a few ounces in Calif. without the Sherriff, your homeowner's insurance and lending bank being notified.

I've got around 30+ pounds, assorted, pistol and rifle. Rough estimate. I didn't know about those restrictions of which you speak? And, it lasts forever, as you may know? At this point, it's probably a lifetime supply?

I tend to think of him more as an investor in a commodity that has real value.

I don't even know how many .22 long rifle rounds I have. <15,000 but not by much. Got a deal on several Rem. buckets a couple of years ago. Will never need to buy .22s again.

Here's the deal, Tim. I have stuff like 25'06Ackley that uses a couple of specific powders, R22 and #2700. Also, my 22-250 Ackley's much prefer H114, which doesn't seem to be available lately. The 22-243Middlested likes H4831, for some unknown reason?
300Mag also likes it, so that's a small savings, at least in space. Then, 45ACP has a couple of specific powders as do the 357 and 44Mag. 9mm and 40S&W both take specific powders, and then you have the weird stuff like 32ACP & 25ACP, and there is leeway because who cares about pinpoint accuracy?

It all adds up to, not really like I'm hoarding 8 pound bottles of 4350, or whatever 5.56 likes for the Bunker mentality people. I have just a reasonable assortment of fairly popular propellants, except for the Accurate 1680 for the Russian stuff.

But, putting it in a dollar amount, if you figure between $35 and $50 per pound, just rounding it off seems like IDK? maybe $1200 to $1500? at todays inflated prices.

Feel sorry for Victor keeping his competitive edge at todays prices, and don't forget, primers aren't cheap, if you can find them?

A guy at the swap meet just had two boxes of small pistol primers, 1000 per box, asking $100 per box. I don't recall the brand.
Glad that my arrows are reusable (usually).

Yeah, I sold some primers for $100 and they were the very decent Federal 210Match primers.

That's the one Achilles' heel when nothing's available. If you stock up on anything, it should be primers.

I should approve of ko ko's plan to stock up on 22 long rifle ammo. I only have 3 firearms that use the 22 rimfire. But I have what I think is enough, considering that I really don't use any of them very much and I guess I could consider stockpiling that ammo for trades, maybe? I mean, the threat of Nuclear Holocaust may be a remote possibility, but what if it isn't? I might trade a box of CCI mini mags for a liter of bottled water so I can flush the toilet, ya know?

Primer availability is not the problem, Natchez seems to always have them in stock, it's the gawd damned shipping/hazmat charges that kill ya.
I keep 10,000 SPP tucked away and use Surplus for practice and matches. To the point I've got 3 powder selections to cover all my bases for pistol/ revolver use and one of those for rifle use. Everything is available....just pricey.

Yeah, I know.

In fact, off and on, I have been considering buying the Hope Diamond. Actually, It's not very rare, anymore. Or hard to find....just kinda pricy.

And, same thing when all you load for is a certain tricked out handgun, and 17 caliber chambered rifles? I'm just kidding, really, just kidding!

What it boils down to is panic buying, like gas ranges, and ammo.

Bullets and loaded ammo and even primers seem to be popping up here in some stores, brass is still in demand and perhaps a few powders. I'm kind of like Vick and only use a few powders in my rifles as i got lucky and found a few that work in dam near everything I shoot. Ramshot big game and vitovory. No pistols here other than a few 22 cal. and think I'm good there for ammo. The 224 Valkrie came out and not real big hit with most so there has been a surplus of loaded ammo for it and I buy a few boxes all winter long. I really miss useing my 17 Pred. and need to get a new barrel put on and wonder how hard are they to get?

I kind of agree with the above. It's hit and miss. I was searching for 44Mag new brass for a long time and had almost given up, and bought some 44 Special brass instead. But then I did a google search and it popped up at Crate Holdings, a place I never heard of?

Anyway, Hodgdons site is very helpful in listing what powders are currently available. It's useful to see what's available and when you check next week, what was available before might be gone but a few that you didn't see the week before and shown as available now. So I see it as an ongoing manufacturing situation. As they make it, it sells out and in the mean time they make something else. I think it's an honest approach to the problem and the demand.

Good hunting. El Bee

PS that haz mat "was" a good deal!
