I dunno? Maybe because they are magnum, but that seems a little high. By the time you add the hazmat fee, you probably need to buy at least 3000/5000? I don't shoot that much small rifle primer. There is a big deal about small rifle primers in what are usually Large Rifle cartridge cases, I "think" they might be made by something called Peterson, just a guess? So, in other words, somebody says that, (for instance) a 308Winchester cartridge with a small rifle primer pocket is really really accurate! Well, accuracy target shooters are very gullible and in the quest for the ultimate in accuracy, they tend to believe anything; any new fad idea.

So, just know that there are cartridges out there that use a large rifle primer, magnum or standard, but in some cartridges, you can buy, at considerable extra expense, new brass with a small rifle primer pocket....and watch your scores SKY ROCKET! Yeah, sure! So, this is what I mean, target shooters are always looking for an angle that will compensate for their lack of skill, and if all it takes is extra money, they are, (as they say) ALL IN!

Anyway, when it comes to primers, this is just about the smallest influence when pursuing accuracy, and if you are fucking around in pistol accuracy, I feel sorry for you because (in my humble opinion) the only game even slightly, or moderately influenced by different, or primer consistency or intensity level is in bench rest and other than beginner, or entry level of competition, these guys all have their ducks in a row, and ain't going to give you the time of day. The really laughable accuracy measured in "thousandths" is pistol. It don't matter what primer unless you are world class, or something? But, there is a segment that will eagerly "buy" accuracy after their skill tops out.

Anyway, that's my half baked theory; for what it's worth.

Good hunting. El Bee

edit: and by the way, Brownell's is a good company to deal with, I've never had a negative experience.
