the hunter, the writer, etc.

Well, of course, he was a Marine Corps officer and I was Army enlisted, so I always seemed to find fault with all of his freebie world hunts and free guns and gear. He's been around a long time and it always gagged me, his Hemingway, and Robert Ruark verbiage/imitation.

He has an article in Peterson's Hunting in which he gives advice on travel with hunting in mind. I should say that I have mellowed in my opinion of him, but he still thinks he has stepped into the shoes of Jack O'Conner or at least Capstick?

He has a photo of him at the airport with a large duffle and a (what looks like a Pelican rifle case, you know, the ones that snipers use for their 338 Lapua and a M6 of some sort, but he used it for a 375 H&H Magnum by (I think) Bergara, again, I think it's a Spanish company that is recently making a big splash and impressing gun writers all over the place. Did you ever read a critical writeup on some new gear? Nope, it's always just about the best and most accurate, (free rifle) the evaluator ever handled!

There's my jealousy showing. Sorry! He says that the ammunition limit for International Airline travel is now 11 pounds. Last time I needed to know about that stuff, it was half that, (as I recall?) but here's something that so many of these guys do not get.

I was frequenting a website visited by steady African hunters and I took some advice when it came to a rifle case for International air travel. It's not the big flat Pelican case that he showed and was probably compensated for? No, these (shall we call them experts?) were using a Tuff Pak case that looks a little like something for golf clubs. They are (oh) about 8" in a rectangular configuration about 5 feet long and generally used for transporting camera equipment, like Tripods, etc. But the beauty of this case is that I could put my CASED rifles inside and stuff it with all kinds of clothing, jackets, boots and I even brought back a live Ostrich egg, securely wrapped along with everything else I could get it there! How's that for versatility?

But, the main thing about the Tuff Pak is that when you get to your safari, you have your soft case(s) which are a hell of a lot more utilitarian and convenient than those Pelican cases, and good luck finding space for a big bulky rectangular hard case in a hunting rig. Much less, getting it opened in a hurry!

I'm getting off in the weeds here, but I just finished that article ad didn't want to miss a chance to rag on ol' Craig. Inter-service rivalry is petty, but it's real.

I thought Minneesota was called Little Sweden? Most Andersona and Olsons I ran into, I assumed(?) were Swedes. What's the deal with Norway, do they speak Swedish, or at least understand it? I wonder if there is a Scandinavian dialect they all understand, even Danes and Finns. But, I am pretty sure there is intense rivalry, particularly between Norway and Sweden. I think Norway is a little smarter about NATO than is Sweden, just waking up to the Russian problem. Of course, since Poland has been fucked over by Russia for 500 years, they understand which way the wind blows and started the whole revolt from Soviet domination.

Something I not quite understood is that we have a rather small continent of Europe and it's not even about the size of the United States and they have Spanish and French and German and Hungarian and about 20 different and distinct languages, (just a guess) but when you think about it, we don't speak Arizonan and Minnesotan and Floridian? Yes, I know it doesn't make sense, but all those divisions, between Bulgaria and Slovakia and yet Austrians speak German, but right across the Rhine, where I was stationed in Karlsruhe, and ten miles away in Strasbourg, they understood English better than Deutsch.

I don't know, just wondering about how isolated they must have been, like to develop an Italian language such a short distance from Greece and then you look at South America and what do they speak? Pretty much Portuguese and Spanish, and you could fit all of Europe into Brazil....maybe not quite? Just random musings for lack of anything better to do? But, you know, if you are going to speak just one language, English will get you by better than the rest except maybe Spanish. But you can't pilot a commercial jet unless you speak English, regardless of the country, Malaysian pilots, for example must be able to speak and understand English which is the International language of flight.

What the hell did I get off on a tangent like this? Excuse me! All I know is that Craig Boddington is a Dink.
