First off sorry to hear about your loss Lance. As Leonard mentioned my wife was diagnosed with Stage four cancer and no cure for it. My wife took it well and probably tougher than me or most men for that matter, she did not have to deal with much pain during her illness cept for one night she ran out of pain pills and I took her into the ER and they gave her a shot of morphine and some pain pills to take home and to last till Monday when she got script filled. The summer went well for her and I got a chance to take her fishing and ridding on her very own ATV. The company I worked for kept me on jobs close to home and allowed me to leave or take a day off when I needed. My wife worked for Wal-Mart and can't believe how they bent over backwards to do anything for her and wellbeing, they went above and beyond and my grats to them. When we couldn't get to the lake the wife spent alot of time with puppy therapy as she loved the dogs as much as me and believe it or not the dogs loved her back and had their own way of showing it. My wife raised all my pups from the minute they were born till the day they were old enough to go to the farm and learn to hunt coyotes. I was able to get the wife along this winter for a hunt so she could watch our newest batch of pups run a coyote or two and see how they shined when doing it. The dogs were making a run through a section and jumped a coyote and pushed it to the bridge where both of us was sitting to wait for them to cross the road. First the coyote came out to cross the road right in front of the truck, wife says there is a coyote and just seconds after the coyote crossed here came her two pups right on the track and then off into next section and then the rest of the pack showed up and they went on as well. Never seen the wife so happy cept for the time I asked her to marry me. LOL When it comes to dogs or me hunting or buying equipment, she never said a peep cept for when I bought a 22 pistol, she wanted to shoot it of which she did, and she enjoyed that to the point I had to get another pistol as she wanted her own. LOL No need for words but my wife passed away tonight at 8:00 p.m., we both new it was coming just didn't know exactly when, she was a tuff cookie and only cried twice the whole time, once when she ran out of pain pills and the other time when I bought her some flowers. Her memory will live on and every day I spend with her pups will be a happy reminder of the times we had. Last time we talked we both agreed we wouldn't have missed it for the world.

Yes, me too. And even though I know exactly what he is going through because my wife died of cancer. It's been almost 16 years ago, but you really don't get over it. Sorry, Tim! I hope you cope well. LB

Yes you do as you just said it. and thanks to everyone. Its been a bad year for me as far as family goes and you just get use to it or try to. Leonard knows about my older brother who passed away a week before Thanksgiving and then my mother died about a week before Christmas. My brother got sick about same time as my wife, and she was just a little stronger and lasted a little longer but in their case we had time to prepare for it and try to get a few things done from there bucket lists and just spend time with them when we could. Thats all you can do.

Surprisingly, I know a couple that declined the Chemo the second time around, they preferred to die rather than go through that misery.

Everybody has to make their own choices. I "think" I'd fight it to the bitter end. But without actually experiencing that suffering, I may well change my mind when the push comes to shove.

Nancy was very fortunate in that the cancer metastasized and went to her brain and caused a stroke. She didn't know the truth and she never did any of the treatments either. Start to finish, it was 9 days, total and the last 4 were in an induced coma. Nobody I ever heard of has a story anything like mine. One morning she vomited, the next I took her in and 3 days later they told me what it was. A complete shock, I had no time to prepare, no hospice, no nausea, and people didn't accept it. Both of her brothers were in denial, telling me to take her to the City of Hope and other advice that it didn't sink in; last week she was fine, this week she's dead. But cancer was working behind the scenes, making sure she had stage 4 cancer before we even knew she was sick. Then the stroke, it was probably a miracle that didn't kill her the first morning.

You never really grasp these things unless and until you have it dumped in your lap.

Good hunting. El Bee

My sister in-law died from cancer a few years back. Found out on a Monday she had it and passed away on a fri. As for the chemo I've heard all kinds of stories, and many claimed you was better off without and just enjoy the short time you have still feeling somewhat good. In my wife's case she felt good after her treatments but always tired for a few days. Treatment started at 7 a.m. and lasted till 2-3:00 in the afternoon. Stage 4 cancer in most cases there is no getting better so doctors work on well-being of life and try to keep them comfortable. My wife had to deal with muscle spasms mostly with very little pain, just discomfort from the spasms and she would feel a little pain coming on so you took a pain pill before it got worse, and the pain pill also helped with the spasms. She slept mostly in a recliner the last 3 months which helped her not to get any spasms or very few. Couple nights a week she would come to bed with me but would sneak out after 3-4 hours as she would start to get the spasms and her comfort zone was her recliner after she took more med.s. The hardest part is when to say enough is enough. Where do you stop? My wifes lungs was filling up with cancer quickly which increased her heart beat and made it tough to breath. The last night with her my doctor gave me two choices, try to fight the infection she was getting at the top of her lungs and keep on her oxygen or try to get her in a ICU and feed her solid oxygen which would mean she would have to be flown to the hospital in the twin cities. There was one small problem there were no rooms available in the state of MN., Iowa or S.D. and she would have to be put on a waiting list. The hospital where my wife was at she had to stay in the emergency care room as that was all they had as well. It was a slow afternoon for the emergency room staff and the wife was right there so the staff took turns sitting with my wife holding her hand and talking to her, even the doctor sat with her. I stayed there for as long as I could bare and her condition was getting worse, she could hear me speak but couldn't talk or open her eyes. After talking again with Doctor, we agreed to keep her on oxygen till mourning and deal with any of her pain as well. We agreed if she wasn't improving by mourning then the doctor would do what was needed. My sister came to the Hospital and the doctor agreed to let her stay with my wife for the night and I left to go home and clean up and get little rest. I had not slept for two days. About a hour after I left my sister called and said Monica had grown her angel wings. and a little word on Covid, yes its real and people are dieing from it and if there is a weakness in your body it will find it and try its damdest to kill you. I took the shots as well as my wife as we both was at risk, the shots won't save everyone but for many it will knock the covid down to almost nothing but keep in mind everyone's body is different.
