Warm day and cold mornings. Finally lost my lettuce. It was froze yesterday morning. But we've been having teens for morning temps.
Went elk hunting last Thursday and walked into a couple of elk. But no cover so I couldn't crawl to where I could get a shot. Other half had knee pads in his pant legs so he crawled out and shot one. She wasn't a big old cow a younger dry one. We were able to bone out and haul it all out in one load between the 2 of us.
Other half took the neighbor out yesterday and tried to walk his ass off. They thought the elk had out maneuver then. While sitting on a small hog back he happened to look across and there came a bunch of elk. Of course the neighbor had to shoot the big old lead cow. They brought out the hindquarters yesterday and about killed the neighbor. They are going back in this morning to get the rest of the cow. Guess the only teeth she had was the 2 ivories in her mouth.
I try to shoot the smaller younger cows because I know I will have to pack the meat out. I still have to get mine. Or try to get mine.
Weather is so mild the animals are all going back up and sitting around 8,000 ft or higher. We need moisture real bad.
