Watched a real good documentary last night on the "Sea Wolves" in Vietnam. Glad they are finally getting the recognized and their story is getting out there.

You know, I have been to a couple reunions of C Company 25th. In one case we had about 40 guys at the Embassy Suites in Lake Tahoe. It was a wonderful experience, Nanc was there, she knew a few of them, my buddy Lt James Peterson was there, he came out and visited me shortly before he died and I attended his funeral in Omaha. Later, I heard a few rumors that Pete shouldn't have been invited, it should have been for the enlisted. Only a few, but it hurt because he was my best and loyal buddy.

We had another reunion a couple years later in Las Vegas, also a great experience, I'm very glad we went, seemed like we had the run of the Four Queens, even a private elevator to a meeting and dining room on the second floor. I had some very rewarding meetings with Anthony, a guy that got fucked over and took an early out. He's very successful in Honolulu, turns out, and I'm happy for him.

But, got sidetracked. What I wanted to say was that at Lake Tahoe, there were two other reunion groups, both from Viet Nam. It's no bullshit, those guys are still fucked up. Some of them, we talked together during happy hour, drinks were free. But, some of those guys bailed, couldn't even handle meeting old comrades in arms. Kinda sad. I communicate with my guys all the time, it's amazing how we have stuck together, one guy, Wimpy, stayed in and actually made Bird Colonel! He's still on the roster.

Back to Nam. My brother was there, central highlands, Pla que, (not sure if the spelling is right) He's a little messed up himself. And, he even got an early out to attend school. He doesn't talk much unless prompted, used to be quite a weed addict, but finally quit. He's killed a few coyotes with me though. Even though reputedly, his wife makes him disassemble his guns and lock them up. Don't know why I said reputedly, he told me that?

Anyway, down Memory Lane. (glad my memories are pleasant)

Good hunting. El Bee

edit: you may think I'm crazy but I did volunteer for service in Viet Nam but at the time they were looking for E5 and above, I was a career PFC.

Crazy is relative. My Uncle Pete was in Berlin when the Nazis threw in the towel. He didn't have anything to come home to that he felt measured up to what he'd accomplished in Europe, so he volunteered to go to the Pacific Theater and the entire family thought that was where he was going until a couple weeks later when he came traipsing up the road at home. After we nuked Japan, there wasn't much call for his skill set. I'm not a veteran but I worked in EMS and Fire making shit for pay when I could have made much more doing something else. But, "something else" wasn't nearly as exciting and fell far short of giving me the same feeling that I was doing something worth doing. I still see people around town who are alive only because I showed up when they needed me most. That's all a guy needs sometimes.

The story of my friendship with Lt James F. Peterson. We had a Christmas party at the NCO Club. The drinks flowed. Well, guess who got in a fight right in front of everybody but he hit me first! I still thought I was going to Leavenworth!

But, as often happens, he had a 57 Olds hardtop Rocket 88 and gave me a ride to the barracks! The next day we were both marked up but nobody ratted. We were friends for life! He was a good guy, left his entire fortune to 15 nieces and nephews. I do miss him. Nanc adored him, they wrote more than I did. We planned a trip to all the US WWII graves and burial sites in France, but it didn't happen.

Good hunting. El Bee

My older brother was an 0311 grunt marine a squad leader one day he was not feeling well and asked his best friend hippie to take point and he would follow at rear he came through a clearing and they were all dead , he lives under a bridge in Sonora California. I have had some contact and some hope only to be dashed at resolution !

I have a very good friend that was a Marine, went to the Nam, came back to the spit and polish of Pendleton and got fed up and requested to go back for a second tour. Name is Victor Gray. He told me he had to take his own initiative and walk over to a gravel pit to sight in his M16. He said they just hand you a weapon along with the rest of your kit and nobody ever thinks of messing with the battle site setting, That's what we called it, don't remember if he called it different or not? But, the point is, who the fuck goes to war without checking their zero? I do it every time I hunt critters, but apparently the Marine Corps didn't bother the two times Vic arrived in country? He said that literally, he was the only guy in his whole company that knew where his rifle was hitting, and they did a lot of over your head emptying a magazine just to keep heads down.

He's just about the only Nam vet I ever met that could be considered normal. There must be others? Now the guy across the street from me, a neighbor of 44 years, yeah he's pretty normal, but he was also a cook, so there's that.

Good hunting. El Bee

edit: actually, my brother in law, who died about two years ago, he served on the Swift Boats. No, he didn't get messed up from Viet Nam. He was always a jerk. But no, not Viet Nam messed up.

I still thought I was going to Leavenworth!

So, what you're saying is that you almost moved to Kansas long ago? To think you could have missed out on all the Californicating.

The thing is, it doesn't matter who started things, it's just a taboo that you don't strike an officer! There were plenty of witnesses and I was kicking his ass. It could have happened even if he didn't press charges, I'm pretty sure it's about right up there with desertion, like firing squad. I do not think there is any other location where they incarcerate military, but I could be wrong? The Navy has a brig and the Army has what's called the Stockade, but they are for short term sentences, like being drunk and AWOL. They will punish you for that and you will lose your stripes, but you will be back in the company in months, rarely a year. We had a master sergeant E-8 that was busted to Corporal due to drinking, but if you get jail time, you must be reduced to E-1. Sometimes a sympathetic leader can promote a man when he returns, there's no rule that I know of as to how long it takes to get your rank back. My buddy made buck sergeant three times in 3 years.

I don't really understand the thinking of some of those guys. You know the hat that proclaims the wearer as a Viet Nam Veteran, the gray pony tail, yeah even the beard, right, ko ko?
I don't know if they are looking for respect or pity? I suppose they have pride for having served? Well, I said before, I don't mind taking advantage of the Veteran's parking space in front of Lowe's. I think it's a fine idea. But, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't wear the hat.

Like I said earlier, why would a veteran go to the expense of traveling to Lake Tahoe to be with the guys he served with, and then break down, the first face he recognized? Actually, not so much recognizing a face, more like a name tag, but looking like his dog just died.

I'll tell you what it is, these are guys that probably shouldn't have been there in the first place, drafted, sheltered life, no gun experience, no hunting and now they are scared to death man child? Maybe I got it figured all wrong? But, whatever it means, I could take it, I'm sure of that. Doesn't mean I'm a tough guy, (and I am) but just the ability to deal with very sobering circumstances. I'm like Vic, more or less. But, you can't screen out the sensitive types, I really think they (some) get a pass, to act a little, whatever you call it?

But, here's my opinion. And, I know you all are dying to hear it. lol

The cocksucker is Lyndon Bains Johnson! & Robert McNamera. The "whiz kids" micro managing that war. Like a lot of things lately; nobody will ever go to jail, but they deserve it, guilty of gross stupidity and arrogance.

They got neither respect nor pity when they returned from Viet Nam. Spit on was more likely to happen. But today it is in fashion to honor the vets. Which is a good thing it seems to me. Some of the guys were/are truly fucked up. Some act that way because, well, it is expected and the stereotype. The crazy Viet Nam vet. They were just young guys who went to war and got shit on for doing their duty.

That's very true, semp. I agree and they certainly have my respect for serving and not hiding in Canada like Bill Clinton. But, it's been over 40 years, time to let it go.

They certainly deserve respect and the people of the U.S. Deserve the shame of allowing a war to be fought through congress. Only the biggest whimps as President would have allowed this to happen the beginning of the media running the country ! It was a turning point for our nation ! I know I'm just another crazy !

The thing is, what's Media, anyway? Look what we have, Twitter, FaceBook, Instagram, and lots of things that didn't exist when they talked about the "Freedom of the Press."

So, the New York Times is bad enough, now that they feel free to put editorial opinion on the front page, above the fold, as they say.

And, what protections and rights they are entitled to, they augment with invented "rights." But, as far as I can determine, they don't focus on providing news on a daily basis, but they sure tell us what to think and the slant on straight "news" is obvious. It's obvious to me because the NEWS MEDIA is just a partner of Liberal Democrats. There is no attempt at "fair and balance," we get Democrat talking points and the decisions are always in favor of the Progressive agenda. If Obama puts children of illegals in cages, there is hardly a word of objection. When Trump has no choice but to continue these policies because the Democrat congress won't provide funds, they get sanctimonious about "Trump's" policies and how them poor kids are sleeping on the floor and if that doesn't pluck at your heartstrings, maybe a little fib; like these fine people are drinking out of the toilets in those cages!

So, when every news item is presented as favoring the Liberals and portraying Republicans and Trump as cruel turnkeys, the people that don't have time to analyze the News spoon fed to them on the Networks,;they accept what is reported as fact. The fact is, the public is lied to on a daily basis. Unless you are very aware of politics, you will have a very distorted view of life in America. And, how many people are political? It's very common, in fact, that families have standing policies to never discuss politics, maybe at the dinner table, or every time they visit the in laws.

In these circumstances, the Media has license to lie and distort every single issue, while others spout "FREEDOM OF THE PRESS, and hardly nobody would think that Dan Rather or George Stephanopoulos would lie to us! But, that's right out of "RULES FOR RADICALS," lie about anything as long as you achieve you goals. The end justifies the means.

So that's what we are up against. The Left has no shame, they will distort every issue, slant the basic news of the day to favor Liberal causes. How do honest people compete with those that have no conscience? Liberals have no conscience, so they have an advantage and can lie to our faces. Now, when Liberals control the Media, all bets are off and it's not just opinion, it is presented as unvarnished truth, and the general public accepts what they say as fact. It not only isn't fact, it's Liberal lies. Probably 60% of the public believes every word spoken every night on Network News. And, total outrage, the Democrats want FOX News disqualified as not legitimate news. Not like NBC, or CNN which should always be believed. We have serious problems unless we figure out some way to police the entire news media and force them to report honestly and fairly. And, good luck with that.

Good hunting. El Bee

PS but the whole idea of that chickenshit outfit controlling free speech pisses me off greatly! I will never be a member!

edit: the irony here is that you were probably suspended by a 20 year old dink that can't even remember who was President before Obama?
