Little speckled puppies are hard to pass up. Nothing cuter, well, maybe a good looking woman. But, the puppy will be your mate for life! Can't say the same for a pretty woman.

That's the problem, ko ko. I tried that. Nothing but Mexican pit bull rejects. And none of them act like they want to go home with you. In 4 trips, I never saw a Beagle anyway.

Good hunting. El Bee

edit: it's like this, can you be sure why that dog is shuffled off to the pound? Does he snap at kids, does he piss on the wall, does he chew on the furniture, does he mind, does he know who's boss? In short, I think there could easily be a reason why a dog is in the pound, other than , Gee we just can't keep him where we live. I'm cautious, not adverse, but you never know what you will get. But, with a pup, if he doesn't work out, it could be your own fault.

Besides, I am very partial to hound dogs.

Good hunting. El Bee

edit: besides, there's not much "rescue" involved. This is a no kill facility and these dogs will be there forever, unless they change their attitude.

Are the parents working dogs or pets? I never bought a dog that I didn't have time to work over the sire and dam to see their temperaments.

That's the one, Vic! Just classic! And she's the Alpha, doesn't even take shit from the boys.

Working? Not a hell of a lot, my son is working contract in North Carolina and his wife is taking care of the whole pack which is quite a job. But they have all their puppy shots and are even house broke, at least on puppy pads. I don't think the adults have ever seen anything but coons, I could be wrong? But looks to me that they are pets first and part time hunters. I don't care, I'm looking for a pet.

Good hunting. El Bee

edit: oh, where are they? In Tupelo, Mississippi

If you go get one, pick me up a jar of Tupelo Honey. I've heard that it's the best.

We talked about it and Google decided that Tucumcari, NM is halfway between Upland and Tupelo. He said airfreight is $300. He who shall not be named offered a contact for a dog transport service. Still pondering options. Still dependent on his schedule, he will be in North Carolina for unknown duration?

Good hunting. El Bee

edit: I'll look into that free jar. I always heard clover honey was the best?

It doesn't really matter if you're looking for hunting genes or socialization genes, if the parents are the kinds of dogs you would like to have, the pups will probably be close to that. Behavior is hard-wired and genetically based. With only a few exceptions, the nature v. nurture question, IMHO, leans to the former. Those are good looking dogs, BTW. The red/whites remind me of a male I had named "'PR' Lance's Grin 'n Bear It", his name was Bear. Half brother to my 'PR" Lance's Bandit Boy Cody". I raised Bear on a diet like we used with racing greyhounds. Ended up being a 94# behemoth. Dumb as a rock up to about 2 years of age even after spending most of that time under the tutelage of a championship training Walker man,and I sold him back to the breeder. By several years later, he was a Duel Grand Champion/ Dual Grand Nite Champion and had a breeding list a mile
long. As for pets and a dog that's good to look at, I lean toward redbones. More of the potlicker look and a healthy redbone hound in summer coat is as sleek as a thoroughbred racing horse. Had one, a female, named Sadie. Beautiful hound but she needed more time than I could give her. Gave her to a buddy and he finished her out to Nite Champion. Never forget that incredible bell bawl she had.

My dog was a female redbone, She got thrown out of the back of a pickup and broke her hip so after a thousand buck she could walk but couldn't swim. She fell in the pool when nobody was home, slipped on the tile around the spa which she insisted on walking out there to get a drink. She was the best dog I ever had.

Now as far as these pups, the sire is a champion Red tic. I've seen the certificate. Mother is a Blue tic. He's about 70 lbs and the mother is only about 45 lbs.

You can see they get along and according to my son, of the four adults, every one has a distinct and different personality, no two alike. He's going to advertise the pups for $350 each. I think the red pups, which are all males will be a spitting image of the sire. One is a bit leggier than the other two. The blues are all going to be bigger than the mother, one male and 3 females.

Good hunting. El Bee

PS yeah Paul. I've heard the horror stories.

I'm moving in that direction but there be logistics involved. Son and grandson want to meet in New Mexico and do a little hunting while there. So Junior will be coming west from Mississippi and Aaron south from Colorado. They will have the pup in a carrier. I think everybody is itching to pop a few caps. It's being able to get away, right now.

It looks to be shaping up for the 25/27th of this month. That's when I adopt the cutest little hound dog you ever saw!

I tell you what. Walking her around the neighborhood here, she will get a lot of attention. They ain't never seen an actual American dog in these parts. Lots of Labrador Retrievers, French Poodles, French Bulldogs, German Shepards, Australian sheepdogs, Scottish Terriers, Afghan Hounds etc. But, not many American developed breeds, they don't even know what they look like?

However, my son tells me that just about every pick up truck he sees in North Carolina has a dog box. He assumes they primarily chase deer, but probably coons as well. But not out here, Yorkies and Mexican Chihuahua, but no American dogs. Unless you want to consider those Pit bull crosses that we have way too many of.

Good hunting. El Bee

While I'm gone, ko ko has agreed to handle complaints. Go easy on him, he has a short fuse! [Smile]
