I had a thunderstorm this afternoon complete with thunder and lightning and HAIL! It must be GLOBAL WARMING!
Well, they feel stupid calling that, anymore. So, they use a weasel word, CLIMATE CHANGE, which means whatever you want it to mean. But, it's SERIOUS! And, we need to do something about it! Like the Green New Deal.maybe?
And, we are well on the way to acceptance via Gobbel's theory of the Big Lie; if you repeat it ofter enough, the people will believe anything. That's what we got going on here. Did I say people? I meant SHEEP!

We've had over 2" of rain this week with more to come this weekend. Everything is green and growing or under water. If and when is dries out and warms up we could pay dearly.
At the mountain house now and it's down right cold. Have a fire going.
I hope for a cool wet summer with not one fire reported. Last time I said that within 2 hours of going on the summer schedule I had a fire. One can always hope for no smoke filling the air.

I enjoy being a lookout. Just don't like how political it all has become and the BS that is attached to the job now. I've went through a week of training my first week on. Now next week is another week of training mainly for all the seasonal that just came on. Which is my husband. I will have to sit in on some of it. We go on summer schedule June 9th.

Several years back, a young man I've watched grow up came to me asking my thoughts on him entering the wildlife management world as he was deciding what to study in college. Knowing him well, I knew he thought the profession was about doing what was right for the resource and that people wold look to him as a legitimate and respected authority whose suggestions and recommendations meant something. The answer I gave him wasn't what he wanted. I explained to him that any sort of natural resource-type work is much more about managing politicians, special interests and people, than the actual resources themselves, and that we are lucky that the resources we enjoy have survived this long in spite of our "management" programs. When folks think of wildlife biologists, they envision Marlin Perkins on the plains of Africa, darting rhinos and rasslin' anacondas. In truth, it's about half your time spent begging for funding to conduct studies, and half locked in a cubicle doing data input with data collected by lackies in the field, then tweaking that data to fit the preconceived notions and expected outcomes of the politicians from which you were begging funding in the first place. The resource gets no direct consideration. In a perfect world.....
As to 2 inches of rain and water everywhere, I'll trade ya...
Miles and miles of flooded farmland here. South end of my mail route will be underwater by tonight. I have three different rivers and four large reservoirs feeding into an ongoing problem. Thank goodness I live on a tall hill now.
This is actually a Kansas wheatfield about three weeks from being harvested. The wheat under that water is about 36 inches tall. The water is about five feet deep. People are fishing for flathead and channel catfish in that field today. Like this for miles, and miles, and miles. If you live south of the Smoky Hill River from Abilene, that 3/4 miles drive on any other day is now 70 miles long due to flooded roads and detours. This was two days ago; it's about 3 feet higher today and still rising. 20 year flood.

We're actually getting rain here in Challis today. Not the usual "miss" type rain. Not mist but it's usually a miss type rain.
I'll take anything for a while.
See Teton Pass had a lot of fresh snow on it this morning on the news and they we're telling everyone to watch out for slick spots.
It's always feast or famine when it comes to weather anymore. Know eastern Oregon would like to have all your water Cdog.

Here's a thought; Build a pipeline and pump some of that excess floodwater out this way. We would be happy to have our reservoirs full and our water tables back up to where they should be.
