Yes, very sad. I knew the man, very pleasant, agreeable, good humor.
I have some pics somewhere of him at a couple of the campouts, if I can find them?
Good hunting. El Bee

Gerry came to one of our PVCI meetings one night and gave a talk. I enjoyed his presentation so I bought his book and enjoyed it too. It is sad to hear of his death.

Funny thing , I didn't know who the man was until I met him at LB's campout, and we talked a little. Met him a few times after that. I did get a kick out of the name given to his 10 ga shotgun.

I always loved his style. When I was into a bit of collecting predator stuff, he signed a couple books for me. No big deal obviously, but cool none the less. Mark

He gifted me his latest book, autographed, at the Seligman campout. What did I do with it, it's somewhere around here?

Oh boy! One of my favorite stories. At Campout #1, Gerry demonstrated his skill and it cost Jay Nistetter a dollar.
He bet that Gerry couldn't hit a beer can, out yonder; while holding Jay's wheel gun UPSIDE DOWN!
Gerry drilled the can almost before Jay got the challenge out of his mouth! We all just about shit.... while Jay dug out a dollar.
It was pretty cool. Lot's of witnesses.

My memory could very well be a litte scewed. But i thought when Jay placed the bet, Gerry held the gun upside and playing dumb asked, "how do you hold one of these things and held it upside down". He really did look clueless. Everyone laughed. Then he murdered the beer can...with the upside down pistol.
But sometimes my brain scues stories to make them better. Especially ones from a long time ago.

Was that the same year Jay brought booze that that about killed me? If so, I think I was riding around with you or the professor.
I went to 3 camps I think and they all kind of blend together. [ October 13, 2016, 05:32 PM: Message edited by: Locohead ]

Another really cool thing about Gerry was his love for Minerals, Gems, and Rocks. After meeting him at one of the campouts, we had a conversation about it. He told me he would be at the Tuscon Gem & Mineral show. I packed up my family and we made the trip. We had a lot of fun but I was so, soo sad we never found him. I had read his first book and when the new one came out, I let my boys read it. He was a house hold name at the Gevara's!!
I don't know if there is a story attached to this or not but it seems like Paul had saved a really good spot for Gerry because he knew Gerry would be coming to one of those hunts. I was soo proud of Paul for doing that!!
Anyone, know how old Gerry was? I know he was one of the early guys, but was he purely a recreational hunter, fur guy, contest humter?? [ October 17, 2016, 11:15 PM: Message edited by: Locohead ]

So far as I know, he was a writer, of stories about hunting? Kind of an all around Renaissance Man of many interests. And, well liked. He wasn't a particularly motivating public speaker, in my opinion. But, he lived a long and good life. I really don't know his age, maybe somebody can google him?
BTW, he still owes me a Mojave Green hatband, but I probably won't ever see it? I'll survive without it, I guess?
Good hunting. El Bee
edit: It just occurred to me. September 18, he died on the same day as my father. [ October 18, 2016, 05:49 AM: Message edited by: Leonard ]
