Just for the hell, a couple weeks back, I ordered a set of Leupold 6x30 Yosenite binos on sale for $80 shipped at Midway. Leupold is also offering a $25 rebate if purchased before Dec 30.

I figured they would be something to shove under the seat of the pickup or take places where if something back happened to them or they got stolen, it wouldn't be a serious monetary loss.

I got them the other day and was very impressed. In fact, I'm damn surprised how clear they are for $55. I'd heard good things about the 6X Yosemite, but not much good about the 8X Yosemite is the reason I went 6X.

Anyway, for anybody wanting a disposable set of binos these seem to be pretty decent. I think they would be great for kids because they tend to lose things and be hard on them also.

That's good to know. I need something to stuff under the seat myself, had a pair of Bushnell's that served the same purpose, couldn't tell ya where they are now ?

Sounds like me? My long time Leupold 9X35's, don't know where they are, have not seen for (what) years? Two maybe? I use a set of military 6X24 these days. Had a nice set of US Navy 7X50's but gave away. I don't use binocs enough to justify three grand, especially the casual way I treat them. For all I know, I might have left those Leupolds hanging on the back of a chair in a restaurant?

But, something don't figure? They say decent optics cost bucks?

Good hunting. El Bee

Leonard, I do believe to get good quality optics that last many years it does require some money to be spent and is well worth it.

For me, when I'm just out kicking around in the off-season and want to see if that distant black spot is an Angus or a black bear, I really don't need the high end stuff. If I leave them in the pickup and they get knocked around or God forbid stolen, I'm not out much.

Part of my reasoning is about 7 or 8 years ago, I had a pair of Swarovski binoculars come up missing while fishing... Felt sick about it for months afterward. I ordered the exact same set a couple weeks later to replace them. I figure from here on out the only safe place for my Swaro's when I'm out and about is around my neck.

Lonny, check out THIS BINO HARNESS from Kuiu.
I have one for my Leica 10x42s, and it works very well! Can shoot a bow or gun, and even belly crawl without your binos slappin' all up in ya grill, or danglin' in da dirt...

Knockem, that is a slick setup!

I've been using the Crooked Horn harness for many years and the Kuiu look like a better mousetrap.

Thanks!

As well as me being a hunter my wife and I are bird watchers. I won a pair of decent bino's a number of years ago and started keeping them in the truck. Those binoculars never leave the truck yet have been the reason I was able to call a few coyotes off of private no hunting property onto BLM land where I could shoot them. As a result my wife bought me a far better pair a few Christmases ago. They've been invaluable.

I've been unable to convince myself that a pair of $3000 binos will give me a bigger advantage than a $400 pair.

Lonny, I bought a pair of those a few years ago for the same reason. They also are great for kids to use. While they won't replace my Swaro's, they work well enough.
