In the wake of King Obama's ATF order to outlaw certain types of .223 ammo, the availability of off-the-shelf factory loads is dwindling fast. Read that sentence twice, because in the wake of King Obama's FCC order to outlaw free speech via the internet, this message will likely disappear very, very soon, as will I.

They only eliminated civilian sales of the 62 gn steel tipped ammo. It has a green painted tip to designate that it is steel tipped and 7 grains heavier than the 55 gn ammo military loads. They claim that the ammo is able to pierce soft armor if shot in a 223 pistol. Totally bogus IMHO, but it really doesn't concern me much.

When are they going to be honest and admit that those "bullet-proof" vests only provide marginal protection? There has been some complaints about hot 357Mag with heavy bullets penetrating almost all cop armor.
So, the logical conclusion is anything that penetrates body armor is illegal. Never mind that none of these vests protect against a hit in the neck or anywhere from the side; only face on or in the back.
G Gordon Liddy got in a mess of trouble once for suggesting that you shoot for the head. Honest and obvious, but the media and the politicians got the vapors over that!
So far as I am aware, none of these vests protect against even the puny 223Remington, which has trouble anchoring a full size coyote. Therefore, any Remington XP100 chambered in ANYTHING, could be subject to banning.
We all know these things, right? Why is ATF suddenly concerned? Obviously, it's a political thing and just to have a negative impact on citizens exercising their Second Amendment right.
Good hunting. El Bee
I think my club restricts steel bullets anyway? Can cause fires. <they say>

You expect honest from THOSE people ??
Lemme get this straight in my head; Steel shotgun loads are `good` but steel bullets are `bad`. Got it.......Clear as mud.
And speaking of shotties.............. What about a 12 ga. slug ??? Probably wouldn't penetrate a vest but possibly would transfer enough energy thru to cause serious internal damage ?? Better at least register all shotguns just to be on the safe side.

So...this particular round defeats body armor. OK. How many other rounds will defeat body armor? Get it? Crack the door, then try and get your foot in, then bust the damn thing down. Bad news.

Let the 223 hoarding begin!
I don't why the media and public has so many questions on effectiveness of these rounds..
All they need to do is use three independent labs , test the same vests and ammo/gun combinations, and collect statistical data..
However , we might not to know the real answer!

Yeah, your logic sounds scary, Paul. Made any quick trips to California, lately? That could do it. You know, just as soon as you cross the river, you start thinking that Hillary would make a great President, guns are evil, GLOBAL WARMING is real, "I think I'll buy a Prius", etc.

It is just like everything else that these assholes do. They keep pushing the law and when they cannot push to law to their extremes he rewrites the law. I'm just glad this ruling will have minimal impact on most us. This ammo cannot be used for hunting in most states and it isn't that accurate. I've shot this stuff and it gets about a 1.5" group out of some barrels. It is good for plinking and wearing out your barrel IMHO. But I guess for those folks that enjoy burning up ammo it does make for some good plinking ammo. The biggest effect will be Federal won't have a way to sale there production over runs causing the price the military has to pay to go up. And guess who pays for that.

Based on my historic consumption of 223, I might have a lifetime supply in the gun room? I loaded up nine 30 round magazines with range brass and .224" bullets that didn't make the grade for LB style predator hunting. Plus a few hundred rounds, give or take. What the hell for, I don't know, maybe civil insurrection or race riots?
Some day, some Fourth of July? I might let loose a fearsome volley on subversive rocks and other targets of opportunity. <yawn> 'cause I love jerking off with a machinegun. <yawn>
Anyway, the drama is just on principle, as far as I am concerned. It's a fake issue and something Liberals do all the time; obvious and embarrassing dishonesty. Obvious, yes. Dishonest, of course! But, are they embarrassed? You must be kidding?

I just don't know what to say anymore ?
The level of liberal stupidity never ceases to amaze me. So now everybody just shoots 223 factory ammo out of their AR's right ?
All this is going to cause, as already stated is 223 hoarding again !!
I've got about 300 once fired cases. Hell maybe (sadly) they're valuable now ?
