Looking for a new scope for my hunting rifle. My Leupold Mark 6 went tits up this weekend and wont hold adjustment.
Considering a Vortex AMG, Nightforce 4-16x42 F1
others?
Must have locking turret's or the windage turret capped, be first focal plane reticle, and if possible under 32 oz. Doesn't leave a lot of options. Price right around 2500.00 or less.

Brent, take a look at Nightforce SHV.
They make a FFP now, and its very decently priced...

Don't know how much you have to spend?
I have what you might call a midrange Zeiss with a one inch tube and just excellent glass. Mine is 4 1/2X14X44, which is becoming like a certain standard, like a 3X9 used to be, a few years ago. I don't know anybody that has one that doesn't like it.
I'm still a little cautious about Vortex, no good reason?

up 2500.00 but I also want decent turrets, locking turrets, a tree style reticle and First focal plane (FFP).
Zeiss has good glass but they don't have much in locking turrets and they have never had any decent reticles and very few FFP scopes.
Vortex has earned its reputation and builds plenty of junk but also some pretty good stuff. Their new AMG is 100% American made up to including the glass.
Still debating.....

I can't fault your reasoning and your choice. A dependable scope that can dial up and down for specific ranges is nice to have....if you have the time to dial it in.
My method has always involved a very flat shooting cartridge, in the first place so I can pretty much hold on fur, out to my practical limitations on range. I have always been very reluctant to bang away at any animal beyond 500 yards and more usually, 400 yards. If they are beyond that distance, it's a matter of diminishing returns.
Marking a down animal at 500 yards is harder than people think. Then there is the angle and the walking out there and the looking and then; coming up empty handed, and the waste of time....you could have made two more stands.
I learned, while hunting at night, that I had to be very sure of everything before flinging lead at a coyote or a cat sitting there at 400, or is it 500 yards? So, no time for dialing it in.
I really like the Horus Vision type of reticle. On the other hand, it's way too busy for night hunting. But, using a reticle like that for making clean kills at those animals holding stationary is a good practical method. As long as you have decent daylight.
I'm just not into those big knobs. I have a couple US Optics scopes with the large dial for elevation. My biggest problem with them is that every time I slip it into or out of the guncase, that knob is big enough to roll out of my zero, if I'm not careful.
I'm just used to estimating and holdover. Those 800 yard shots are a low percentage game, like I say, even if he's dead, after wasting two hours looking, and you come up blank. Keep it simple and know your equipment, works for me.

Unless its a beast it doesn't have locking turrets or a Atacr 4-16.
Is it either of those?
Leupold is back with a replaced elevation turret.

Zero turrant it's a NSX line thinks it's 3.5 -15 illuminated.
