Got out yesterday to try and call a coyote to the .41 mag wheel-gun. Never got a coyote with a handgun before so what the heck. Made a bunch of stands that produced little sign and less coyotes. I did manage to call in a very pale grey fox to 25 yards and miss the thing off of the sticks, no less. It bolted but grey fox like, it popped back out. Adjusted my aim and killed the fox & a few hundred fleas with the second shot. Had to hike back to the truck for the spray & a plastic bag. Awesome pelt and the hardcast lead bullet punched straight thru without damage.
So .... all in all, not a bad day. Grey fox with a handgun. I'll take it......... but tomorrow I'm going to go out and adjust the sight.

No .............. the sight is 'off' from my usual sight picture. Tried a few practice shots at the end of the day. Definitely shooting high for me.
I don't claim to be a wiz-bang shot with a handgun but I have a 14" pan lid set up as a gong at 40 yards for my .177 cal Crossman PumpMaster Classic pellet pistol. Standard is 3 out of 5 hits offhand. The basics of shooting the pellet pistol are the same as pulling the trigger on the .41 Mag. This makes a critter at 25 yards kind of a chip shot......... IF the sights are the same.
How ya doing, Tim ??? Getting out to annoy the coyotes ???

Firstest, I never thought much of the 41mag, can’t say why exactly? But to try to cover between a 357 and the 44mag, and since I have both of those, it is a bit of an oddball, but I’m sure your is wonderful and does everything you need of it and then some. I read an article just a couple days ago about the 41mag and I believe it covered all virtues magnificently.
It’s like anything else. Before I got me a 300winMag, I didn’t think much of the cartridge and being as opinionated as I am, I shared my opinion, frequently. At the time, I thought, (this was when these chamberings first came out and I was in the army at the time and American Rifleman was passed around the barracks as my only source of knowledge. So, I was sure the 264WinMag was incredible and awesome, as well. That all changed when I had the money to buy a 700, but it was in 300Mag. And, as everybody knows, it is all the big game rifle anybody will ever need. So, perspective does change depending on what you got, not theoretical perfection.
How come we never heard about this hand cannon before now?

And another thing.
ko ko, what you should have done was used that gray as a decoy! A gray fox decoy is the best, far better than a rabbit. In fact I have has a couple grays stolen from me as I was doing exactly that, using a dead fox as a lure on subsequent stands. A coyote seems to recognize a gray fox carcass for exactly what it is and I swear, as soon as they see it, they make a friggin’ BEELINE 🐝 charging straight to the fox.
It might be wise to secure the damned thing with bailing wire! Let’s just say, I wasn’t paying enough attention to the damned decoy and while scanning over that way, a damned coyote can a sneak in and scoot so quick he’s gone before you realize he just made a fool of you!

Probably haven't heard of the .41 'cause I rarely burn powder anymore. Pretty much only the recurve & pointed sticks these days. The main 'gun' that I shoot is the pellet pistol from the patio at the gong while bbq-ing.
The fox may have made a decent deke but it was a moving mass of fleas. Into a plastic bag and a couple of doses of bug gas.

I'm always hearing about coyotes and fox that are flea infested. Honest, I never see that? Same with Mange, very very rare, in my experience. I've seen a couple way down south that look black and I guess it's because of mange? I managed state hunts for 10 years, which meant I had to check in and score every single animal, and even weigh them, for large animal awards. Therefore, I saw a few with shriveled up tails like a pig tail, but I never killed anything like that. Seems like Nevada animals are especially clean and I never saw any infestations, at all. I hear about it all the time but never saw it personally....unless I was checking in other people's animals and (just a wild ass guess) less than 5% of all checked in animals; maybe less.
And yet, I hear it's epidemic, other places? Just lucky, I guess? And, I mean never, zero. Never had a flea infested coyote, fox or cat; or badger.

Standard 'stuff' to carry in the truck around here is plastic bags and flea spray. This one was so bad that I had fleas on my hand on the way back to the truck. Left it and came back to it with the bag & spray. Did I mention that I hate fleas ????

No, I have heard of people toting a plastic bag and some kind of flea powder. Never saw a coyote that was flea infested.
But you are over in extreme eastern AZ, and I have to admit, that’s an area that I’ve not hunted as much as other places. Although, I have hunted AZ pretty much, since 1969. That more than 50 years, and a good amount has been border areas. It seem kind of fooling now, but I mean close enough to the barb wire that I’ve crossed it to pick up a downed animal. I tried to make sure there wasn’t anybody around before I did it, you can’t help but feel a little nervous. But, of course; those assholes will never take me alive….right? Just kidding! You don’t believe that shit do you?
