I've only seen a few calling videos, mostly on Youtube and one or two at a friend's place, but I have copied them exactly in my effort to improve. Here's my problem:

I can't seem to get critters to come when I call with the background sound of rock music, no matter how hard I try. If a coyote ever does show up at a distance, I turn up the volume just like the videos do at that point, and doggone-- literally.

What am I doing wrong?

You are probably pouring it on a little thick. Fade it in... And then fade it out... Ya got that? Fade it in... And fade it out... Real soothing like.
Hit 'em with some Hendrix and they may sit down and listen. Killswitch Engage sends them running.
Fade it in...

Your coyotes could be "Rock Music Shy". You might want to try some Willie & Waylon next time. [Big Grin]

Edited just 4 'Smithers". [Roll Eyes]

Maybe some New Age crap. After all, the coyotes are evolving to everything we're throwing at them. Think Green.

Highwayman always works for me if played over "Jack in heat" sound, but if they dont come in before Johnnys part you can forget it, that whole "I fly a starship" thing really spooks em. If that happens you`ll need to switch to Bob Dylan right away.

I'm looking, but don't see anything. Besides, I only pick up the flag and run once I'm certain that Dan is still down for the count.

Welfare check on Dan!

JD, seems to have some backward ass queer apostrophe thing going on and Kokopelli is mixing apostrophe's with quotation marks.
I think I saw Leonard use machine guns as one single word in another thread. A faux pas of that magnitude going unnoticed makes me question just how seriously you take this job. [Smile]

Okanagan,
I usually hunt in the rural areas and "those" yodel doggies like yodeling. I give some Slim Whitman, industrial strength on the stubborn ones.

Don't let anyone else know my secret, OK ?

Of course, if you want to do some locating while you're calling, hit 'em with some Little Walter. When he cuts loose with that chromatic blues harp, you'll have every coyote from Bend to Burns howling. [Cool]

A single apostrophe (') would be correct if quoting within another quote. I see that Koko changed that, except for that one "dig" ' he used preceding your name. Ironically, you misused an apostrophe when using the plural form, "apostrophe's". That should simply be "apostrophes". Just sayin'....

And no, I'm not serious about it since I wouldn't want to step on Dan's toes. BTW, where the hell is Dan? We'd better start forming a search party.

Oh crap, now Roede misspelled "thou" and will most certainly be burning in hell for not using the proper, God. This chit is rampant!

Speaking of Roede, you calling me dumb?

(Edited because I can't keep up with this bunch.)

I don't give a shit what the spell checker says; as far as I'm concerned "machinegun" on this Board, will be one word.

Thank you. El Bee

If you're talking to me, no. You're still going to hell for not capitalizing God and you're still calling me dumb in your sig line for my dust ups with Tim. Don't want to, but would be remiss in pointing out that your last statement is actually a questions, sans the "?". smithers is going to eat you up on that one.

OK, I'm done since I saw that Dan was back and apparently okay.

Plus, Roede's quote about village idiots has quotes at the front and none at the end.

Gentlemen, I have no problem with arguing over punctuation, (if we must) but can't we find a better use of our time and resources? I mean, if you think we need it, I can assign Dan full time to proofread every friggin' post before releasing it. Do we really need a full time spellin poleece? He will want a raise.

Good hunting. LB

Gentlemen, I do appreciate your sincere help offered here, and the measure of that sincerity shown by adhering so closely to the topic in the OP. But after further thought I may try a new innovation in the annals of predator calling.

It occured to me that the uniformly low brow culture shown by coyote callers may be counter-productive. I am going to play classical muzack. How many coyotes have heard Brahms or Beethoven? Dvorzak's "New World Symphony" should thrill the soul of any coyote in America, if he has one.
