Topic: Ever do one of those DNA ancestor things?

My daughter wanted me to do one of those DNA things so she could find out more about the male side of the family.
I had been told years ago that the family got here from England because they were horse thieves and got kicked out of that place. And that we were English/United Kingdom people.
So she buys me this kit and I send in some spit and the results come back that ,yep, I have almost all UK blood and some German, my mom was German.
And that I must be white. I don't know about Arian(sp) but white anyways.
Found it interesting but not really worth the money she spent getting me that kit.
Any one of you ever do that and find out different than what you were told by ol Dad or Grandpa?
Just curious and have doubts about them not sharing the results with Big Brother.

I did the 23 and Me thing a couple of years back.
I was adopted at birth and never knew who or what my back ground was. It's interesting to find out haven't done any of the health risk thing. Just don't care to know.
I do go back to Marie Antonet(sp?) Mostly Swede, Norway and a few other things I can't remember now.

My half baked opinion is it's another device like FaceBook that is harmful to your privacy and potentially dangerous.
I'm not anyway inclined towards criminality but this creep called the Golden State Killer was apprehended because a close relative of his, after years, like 20-30 had his ancestry checked and they somehow traced him and tested something he discarded and it matched sperm he left all over the place. He doesn't stand a chance and that's great, but the libertarian in me thinks that somehow this technology could be used against me one of these days and it's case closed, "we got your DNA, you're guilty, Pal!"
Make no mistake, this is Big Brother with lots of ideas, like one of these days taking my stuff from my cold dead hands, if you know what I mean?
Besides that, I'm skeptical of the technology. All of this crap about the "Double Helix" is useful in some areas and in others, it's pretty fake. Besides that, I think there was something in the news not long ago about some tech that contaminated 1000 criminal files and they stumbled across it by accident. There are people with motivation, death angels, law and order freaks, and people on juries are always willing to trust authority.
Even those women that burned half of Arizona because they needed firefighting overtime. People do shit and it's hard to keep track of the infrastructure side of things. You have Crusaders all over the place, like that asshole California congressman who said the government has nukes to counter any insurrection from the unwashed masses. Kamila Harris will sign an executive order within 100 days to send SWAT house to house for your guns.
Liberals will use any and every device to get what they want, honestly and dishonestly. Just think of the underhanded way they fought against a Supreme Court Justice who they thought might overturn Roe v Wade. I mean, shit like this is so important to them that they will go to any foul means to win, and if they can tinker with DNA to "prove" it, that wraps it with ribbon and a nice little bow on top. We have to be careful with these ultimate solutions that prove any damned thing they want to prove. Such as studies and projections predicting CLIMATE CHANGE!
AOC just said yesterday that she wakes up terrified in the middle of the night worried that GLOBAL WARMING is melting glaciers and releasing deadly virus that could kill everybody! There are drones out there that believe all this bullshit like it's the word of God. The Media helped by legitimizing the impending doom. It's so damned difficult with the "Drive By citizens" that don't have time for anything more than headlines. Once or twice and they file it away as confirmed fact.

Here's another example of how the Democrats and their enablers in the Media have convinced the public, the citizens and the voters that something that was decided with great care 241 years ago is suddenly unfair because the Bitch lost.
Specifically, they are dealing with a very dangerous concept, discarding the Electoral College in favor of a popular vote.
It seems super fair to the Stupids out there who are actually unqualified from an education level, to even be entitled a vote.
If that were to pass, forget about all this currying favor in Iowa and all the early primaries. All they have to do is campaign in the big Liberal cities, both coasts, and FLYOVER COUNTRY can go suck an egg! While clinging to their guns and their religion, and Liberal America will impose it's will on conservatives.
It's really hard to believe that the population is so ignorant! But after so many years of indoctrination in public schools, they now have our children convinced that Socialism sounds really cool. The fact that none of them can explain it, or can give an example where it has been successful is apparently meaningless.

edit: biggest mistake we ever made was giving the vote to ignorant, impressionable 18 year olds. They all have their head up their ass and are dependent on mom and dad until they are at least 26. I couldn't agree with all of you more. I just thought it was interesting to have it tell me what I already knew in the first place. What a guy won't do for one of their kids.
Leonard, if they do away with the Electoral College than the war will truly begin. And those 18 year olds really don't know their ass from a hole in the ground and have no moral convictions or honor.
On a better note, I went out fishing today and although it wasn't as productive as I had wished for it was indeed good to get out and wander around the pond...

My comments were because of that brainless AOC who very recently made a smug statement that today's youth were so much smarter and more aware than previous generations. Not only wrong, but dead wrong. The kids today actually do not have a clue, they are being fed absolute claptrap! They learn nothing in school except a lifelong dependency on a stupid iPhone! They have everything so easy! They don't even know how ignorant they actually ARE!
Yeah, I know they know how to like somebody on social media, and how it crushes their little ego to be unfriended. It's quite pathetic what they have learned about the real world.
To think they deserve the vote based on their accomplishments and knowledge is pathetic. And they are so smug in their ignorance! Socialism is great! But, they don't know what it is, can't even explain it! They are friggin' BABIES! And they believe they are qualified to elect Bernie or Warren so they get more "free stuff"? They have been told what to think all their life, they have never done any critical thinking in all their years but they are told that they are so intelligent and more aware than any previous generation. If they can cancel their student loan debt which they earned pursuing some worthless degree in the first place, they are all for electing some commie, preferably somebody that will justify dismembering infants so they are easier to dispel. My wife was adopted in Missouri which won't tell you shit, so I gave her the ancestry kit for her birthday last year. For all her life, people had said she looked Irish, and lo and behold, she is 64% Irish, according to them.
My lineage is documented on paper going back a ways. On mom's side, clear back to the 1600's in Prussia. Hard to argue with a name like Obermeyer.
Dad's side was somewhat vague until I met up online with a third cousin in Texas who did all the leg work on the Homman side, except for the one leg where we reside. He got what he needed to fill out his chart and I got everything going back about 300 years - German and English.
Don't want to know any of the medical stuff. That would be a millstone around your neck, knowing what you're susceptible and genetically predisposed to. Great for the things that we can treat. But, what about the shit we can't? Just sit there and wait out the diagnosis? I'd rather live ignorant of my own impending demise.
