Checkin in...some good rockin and rollin...pretty damn strong and long lasting. Buddy sent us pic of hiway 178 by Lake Isabella, rocks falling from mountain pass blocking road.

This latest one had us standing at doorway, trees outside swinging back and forth.

Wife is already wanting to head to Idaho.

Within an hour after that big one last night, there were at least a dozen aftershocks between 3.? and 4.4. Those are pretty significant quakes all by themselves. Then that Lucy woman from Cal Tech said there is a 1 in 20 chance that there could be an even bigger one. I'm thinking not, because of all the fore shocks and aftershocks and it must have relieved quite a bit of pressure. Unfortunately, a ceiling fan didn't fall on Gavin Newsom's head, but there is that 1 in 20 chance so keep your fingers crossed!

I've seen reports on the news and while surfing the Internet of damage, cracks in the earth and the usual stuff TV likes to show pictures of, stuff fallen off of shelves in grocery stores.

Also, since it occurred in the desert, this is where people live in mobile homes and they did not do well. Then, I had a thought, probably none of these people had earthquake insurance? It's specific, extra and quite expensive. I used to have it until the Northridge quake 20 years ago and my insurance company went tits up and got completely out of the property insurance business, homeowners etc. Now, all they insure is automobiles. Was called 20th Century, now it's 21st Century. Anyway, I still don't have earthquake insurance, it's just a risk many people take.

I remember now, that when we had that quake in Upland, the house that burned down was about a block away, and it was on Aster, the street where I live. They completely rebuilt the house and I'm pretty sure they were covered by their fire insurance, not earthquake insurance although you could easily make a case that a water heater falling over and breaking the gas line could just as easily have caused the fire. That fire actually caught three other houses on fire, but damage was limited to the roof in all cases. So, we were pretty much the epicenter of damages within a block and a half of me and I had a hell of a time getting home that day because of fire hoses crossing all the streets. Flashback: down memory lane.

FWIW; After the Northridge quake (I lived in Reseda, 6 miles from the epicenter) I had no damage of note or earthquake insurance.
FEMA came into the Valley of San Fernando taking over the management of everything from the people camping in the parks to Federal Disaster Payments. They wanted me to fill out a claim. Told them that I had no damage & was good to go. Just clean up issues. They then wanted me to fill out a 'statement' that had nothing to do with damages....only where in the Zip Code I lived. Seems I qualified for about $2000.
For a while, FEMA was throwing money around big-time. Uncle Sugar to the rescue.

Ah man! How can you sleep at night? (kidding)

I'm still bothered from when I accepted $40 from Remington because they used inferior steel in their barrels, on an 11-87 that I am still using today, but as I understand, almost caused Remington to declare bankruptcy. Of course, while I got forty bucks, the lawyers made millions.

Of course, it's completely different, handouts from the Federal Government and a private firearms manufacturer.

Mark if your serious about coming up here. You need to call me. Things have changed since we last discussed some things what was it 4-5 years ago now ?

It's not all bad, you just need to choose your battles wisely. Example affordable housing has become a crisis.

Mostly with the influx of people not all Kalifornians ? BTW

Shits all jacked up. Wages don't match with cost of living. It's ok for established people, were just trading dollars.

And, here I thought real estate and housing costs were kinda static, while on an upward trend?

At least around here, the so called, "sub prime" deal where everybody is entitled to be a homeowner without doing the homework; that blew up in 2006 (I think?) and homeowners in total, collectively, lost a few TRILLION in equity, and they still haven't made it back to zero in 13 years and counting.

When lifelong renters are practically gifted home ownership, they don't seem to have the loyalty. They say, whoa! I can't afford the payments so let foreclosure happen and I'll just rent something more affordable. I guess? But, just to feel good and let people qualify based on "stated income" without documentation, because you don't want to appear racist.

I don't know if I have the concept down, but property is a thing that trends, usually up. I can say this much, in the past ten years or so, I have lost a great deal of wealth, on paper. Who do I blame? Liberals, of course.

Treasure Valley (Boise area) is in a crisis with housing. Buying or renting. There isn't anything affordable at this time. The rate of pay actually sucks. The roads are packed, jammed backed up you name it and you'll wait 2-3 lights to get through intersections.
It's bumper to bumper on weekends on any highway headed north into the mountains.
Crime rate is serious and deadly. If you're leaving one area looking for something better you'll probably walk right into the same mess just different area.
You might find something in a small town. But if you're still needing work you probably won't find it.
As for hunting everyone who moves here is moving here for the hunting. The hunting is becoming totally over crowded less and less animals to hunt. Even the coyotes are on the hit list big time. Everyone packs a rifle or wants to be a trapper.
There is areas with better deer/elk hunting now a days.
Midwest is a lot better coyote hunting just no public lands.
Big decision choose wisely.

Yep: earthwalker nailed it. Houses sell or rent within hours in the Boise valley. Houses sell for over asking price.

Here in the nearby Payette Valley. A decent place will sell or rent within a few days.

Trust me, I'm trying to help my wife's mother find a place. It's got plump stupid..

I have a nice acre coming up for sale. Very reasonably priced. No house you will have to build. The old mobile home HAS to be tore down. We can't sell it for someone else to live in. And I don't want to see what would live in that place. Because I know they don't have the money to pay for it. Also has a great well. One of the best garden spots in the area. Easy commute into Boise.
We are living there now while working. But I'm not liking it anymore. There is a small work shop on it with a great cellar. No subdivision can do what you want on this property.

In Horseshoe Bend a 2 bedroom house was renting for $850 plus $150 extra a dog and $50 extra for each dog. Nephew couldn't afford it and he was crying the blues about HSB.

Leonard, ever notice the snow drift fences in Wyoming, Montana and the Dakotas? You figure it out. Winters are road and hiway closers there.

Oh geeze! Don't remind me of the weekend I spent trapped in Rock Springs, Wy! 14 foot drifts and it wasn't even snowing but there was no way out of town, believe me, we tried! The restaurants were all out of food, people were triple parked on the streets.

Yes, Walt, I get the message.
