From the Sheriff of Johnson County, Kansas, the state's most populated county (Kansas City area)

If Kansas urbanites feel this way, I can assure you that the rest of the state - us poor dirt farmers - are this to the "nth" degree.

Where I Stand on Unilateral Personal Disarmament (Gun Control):
Since the atrocity in Newtown, Connecticut and the resulting proposals from Washington, D.C. for stricter “gun control” measures, I have been inundated with questions regarding my position as the Sheriff of Johnson County on this issue.
Along with everyone else, my heart was broken by the senseless act of criminal violence by an obviously deranged individual. I also watched with great concern, the bizarre actions of another, similarly afflicted madman in Aurora, Colorado.
From reading the proposed changes and suggestions for future legislation from Washington, I see nothing whatsoever that would have prevented these past atrocities from occurring, nor do they pretend to effectively prevent future incidents from happening. We seem to be caught up in a tidal wave of mindless emotion that demands, “Do SOMETHING! Even if we know it is ineffective, meaningless and purely symbolic!” Even in our national grief, we must adhere to reason and logic.
In past similar incidents, the most effective response to stop the bloodshed has been resistance by gunfire or the presence of a gun in the hands of a potential victim that stopped the killer or caused them either to surrender or, in many cases, to take their own lives. Logic dictates to us that armed individuals; whether armed private individuals or hired security personnel, are the answer to prevent future tragedies in those places that we have inadvertently made free-fire zones with the totally useless “No Guns Allowed” signs.
Our Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution and Bill of Rights based on the harsh lessons they had endured under the tyranny of a British King. Those great men would marvel at the technology of today. They would be awestruck by jet airplanes, modern automobiles, computers and cell phones. They would be in awe of modern firearms available to soldiers, law enforcement officers and law-abiding citizens. However, they would be all too familiar with the actions of politicians who would impose legislative restrictions on responsible, reasonable, law-abiding, tax-paying American citizens for “our own good.” (If you hear a faint humming noise, it is them spinning in their graves.)
The Bill of Rights does not grant us certain rights as the government sees fit. This sacred document simply acknowledges our rights as they exist. The right to worship your God; the right to speak your mind; the right to vote for your candidate in free elections; the right to own and possess the means to protect yourself, family, home, community, state and country.
The militia mentioned in the Second Amendment pertains to all able-bodied citizens capable of bearing arms. That is US! “to Keep and Bear arms” means, “to OWN and CARRY arms.”
As Sheriff, I will never support, nor advocate for, ANY legislation at ANY level (local, state or federal) that would restrict the legal possession or ownership of any type of firearm (or high-capacity magazine) by lawful, law-abiding, tax-paying citizens of Johnson County, Kansas and of the United States of America.

/s/ Sheriff Frank P. Denning, Johnson County Sheriff

That's all good but he left out one detail.... will he enforce new laws that will undoubtably be passed soon? If so than his eloquent blatherings are just that, blatherings spewed by a politician who no doubt wants to be re-elected in a conservative state..... sorry boys , I'm not easily impressed by ploticos and there ramblings. I do however hope he is as good a man as he projects himself to be.

The sheriff mentioned the constitution and how it was a response to the king of England.

This is the ONLY area where I disagree with him.

The Constitution is a timeless document for the ages. I say TIMELESS for one reason.

The Constitution addresses the failings of human nature.

Human nature is such that someone always wants to tell you how to live your life.

This is the seed of tyranny.

YOU WILL DO AS I SAY OR YOU WILL BE KILLED OR JAILED!

Sound familiar? Does this sound like our current government in their attempts at gun control?

Imagine the screams if the government suppressed free speech?

The media would be all over it like stink on shit.

But on THAT OTHER right called the second?

They would like nothing more than to flush that turd.

The media thinks the first amendment can exsist without the second.

But they are deathly wrong!

Do you see the human nature coming out in people with all this?

The Constitution is timeless, and to Americans, sacrosanct.

So is the first amendment.......

The Constitution says that all rights not enumerated (numbered) to the federal government are RESERVED to the people.

Free speech as spelled out in the Constitution is reserved to the people.....not a few liberal media elites who want to force their Hollywood., faggot loving, child killing views on the American people.

I think his last paragraph addresses your concerns, JD.

Frank, of all the amendments to the Constitution, I believe and hope that people are coming to the realization that the Second Amendment is at least as important as the First, as without the Second Amendment, none of the others will exist indefinitely. It is through the Second Amendment that We, the People, are afforded the means by which to protect every other facet of our Consititution. And, THAT is why the Second Amendment is so important, and why it is the Second Amendment rather than some distant afterthought further down the line.

I think, when all is said and done, 99% of the big talking resisters will cave in rather than risk becoming an arrested and indicted criminal with a record and potentially losing the weapon and being fined a substantial amount of money. These are people of certain "means" (like Fred) that own stuff and have never, (previously) considered themselves to be a law breaker. It's interesting to be doing something legally, until they pass a law and make what you do, or have....ILLEGAL.

To clarify, I think most people will consider the risks and benefits and decide to comply, and wait for the other shoe to drop; which it surely will. Then we will see how many in the "Come and get 'em" crowd will act as they say they will.

Good hunting. Lima Brav 0

Leonard, gun owners are gonna handle their business as they see fit. There are an estimated 1 million "assault weapons" in NY state, and i bet there are plenty more that would now qualify under this nonsensical bullshit.
Sure, it may indeed be posturing, but that message alone warrants the state to take pause and reconsider before implementing invasive forms of enforcement.
As for me personally, I'll exercise the 5th on insulating myself from infringement on the 2nd...

ADMINISTRATIVE NOTICE"

To: To all YCSO Representatives

Fr: Scott Mascher, Sheriff

For: Information

Re: GUN CONTROL

Date: January 18,2013

I have received many questions and concerns from our public and YCSO staff about recent gun control issues.

As your Sheriff, I have taken an oath of office to support and uphold the Constitution of the United States, and to protect the people of Yavapai County. I take this oath seriously.

Now we have politicians that want to prevent millions of law abiding, honest Americans from owning certain firearms and magazines because of the mentally ill and violent criminal offenders.

I do not believe that extreme acts of violent criminal behavior should ever misguide a politician into enacting orders or laws that would take away Constitutional Rights and Liberties from law abiding Americans.

As Sheriff, I refuse to participate or cooperate with any unconstitutional order that will infringe upon our 2nd amendment ri

Sherrif Margeret Mimms of Fresno sent a letter to Bidon saying the same. She will not enforce any bullshit gun laws.
Fresno Co. is here in the Central Valley farm country, and pretty conservitive minded.

If you consider the number of people killed because guns are available to Americans then I think it only fair that you consider the number of people killed because the media can say any immoral or perverse thing they want.

Television, the movies, news reports, print media, pornography.....all these things have created an American society where abortion is legal, drug use is glorified to the death of millions, alternate life styles are promoted (homosexuality, gay marriage, faggots as teachers in our schools), violence is promoted, school killings are sensationalized, the teaching of debased morals........ all these things the media does.....and it adds up to a death toll that makes guns seem like an afterthought.

Abortion alone kills over 3000 per month.

If you want to get to the root of the problems in America you need to look at the message the media puts out.

The media says gun owners have abused their freedom so we need to regulate guns.

I say the media has abused its powers to where America may actually be destroyed.

Time to regulate the media and take that power out of the hands of the few media elite and put it back into the hands of the American people.

The founding fathers could never have envisioned the power the media would one day have. The problem is not the media but the people behind it who control its message.

This message, turns out, is more dangerous than socialism, communism, and islam combined.

Time we look at ways to enhance freedom of speech by giving control of media back to the American people!

The "media", with respect to movies, news stories, and the like will try to defend themselves by saying that the product they present to the consuming American public simply does not influence the American mindset as has been alleged. To that, I say that we only have to look as far as the most recent election cycle and how the uninformed were convinced through deception to vote for Obama again. People simply are not this stupid without a little help.

Yet they sell advertising in the same media and claim that it influences people to buy products, etc. The main message does not influence people but the 30 second message does. This is pure hypocrisy, one of the purest.
